New sofa!
That's the title of an email I just got from an online magazine I subscribe to. In it, I found a link to the inspiring and controversial speech that Bill Cosby gave a few years ago. I think it's wonderful. And, for the record, I couldn't care less what color someone is. Everyone needs to take responsibility for their own actions, and for their serious responsibilities in parenting! It matters so much! Here's a link to the transcript of his speech, it's fabulous:

What television show stands the test of time?
He-llooo...STAR TREK!!!
It will always live long and prosper!!!
I'm a total nerd, not even ashamed of it, I love Star Trek and I don't mind announcing it!
My sweet mom. I have this photo of her in our house, and I realized it's the only copy I have, so I took some shots of it, because if anything ever happened to it I'd freak out. My mom is so beautiful and wonderful. I'm so utterly thankful for her, and to her, just for who she is and what she is and has been to me. Thanks mom. You are radiant from the inside out!
I looked on You Tube for this, but couldn't find it...this show I'm watching is so great...for any nurses or medical people out there...this show was amazing...check it out if you can find it on again on PBS or elsewhere:

Oh how I love, love, love this song:
We Live from my favorite band lately, Superchick...here's the lyrics, which pretty much describe exactly how I feel about life:
There's a cross on the side of the road
Where a mother lost a son
How could she know that the morning he left
Would be their last time she'd tred with him for a little more time
If she could say she loved him one last time
And hold him tight
But with life we never know when we're coming up to the end of the road
So what do we do then
With tragedy around the bend?
Chorus:
We live, we love
We forgive and never give up
Cuz the days we are given are gifts from above
and today we remember to live and to love
We live, we love
We forgive and never give up
Cuz the days we are given are gifts from above
and today we remember to live and to love
There's a man who waits for the tests
To see if the cancer has spread yet
And now he asks, "So why did I wait to live till it was time to die?"
If I could have the time back how I'd live
Life is such a gift
So how does the story end?
Well this is your story and it all depends
So don't let it become true
Get out and do what we were meant to do
Chorus
Waking up to another dark morning
People are mourning
The weather in life outside is storming
But what would it take for the clouds to break
For us to realize each day is a gift somehow, someway
So get our heads up out of the darkness
And spark this new mindset and start to live life cuz it ain't gone yet
And tragedy is a reminder to take off the blinders
And wake up and live the life we're supposed to take up
Moving forward with all our heads up cuz life is worth living
Chorus (to fade)
So, when I first heard this song it was about 2 years ago...this song resounded in my head because at the time I was working at a hospice (I'm a hospice nurse) with another nurse who had lost one of her two sons in a fatal car crash less than a year earlier. It meant so much to me, because I felt so deeply for her, being a new mom of a boy - not even 2 years old at that time. Next, working in hospice, I see situations like the "man who waits for the tests to see if the cancer has spread yet" who have waited "to live until it was time to die"...this song is SO TRUE of life. It's painful but it's meaningful because I believe that God is there and He has reasons for all things that happen...we don't get to figure it out until later. I try to put my money where my mouth is because what do I do if/when tragedy strikes me? I believe that no matter what happens, it will be ok, because I know God's got a huge plan that I can't possibly understand. Anyway, I've been listening to this song a lot lately, and I just decided that it's kind of my theme song, also how it talks about how we forgive...that's HUGE! I believe in forgiveness! But I digress, since this is kind of my theme song, I just felt the need to express it! To put it in writing! This is the legacy I want to leave. This is who I am. It's who I choose to be.
